PORTRAITS

Stories of people who have returned from Germany and Libya – “voluntarily”, but without having had any choice.

At the end of a long journey, the returnees find themselves back at square one – and often far worse off than before, despite or perhaps precisely because of the “support programmes”. Rückkehr-Watch portrays people who have agreed to return to Afghanistan, Morocco, Nigeria, Iraq or northern Iraq. Why did they do it and what have their experiences been? Their stories tell of the pressure to leave, the lack of alternatives, dashed hopes – and the will to try again.
